Our People

Meet the Clergy, Musicians, and Vestry who offer their many gifts to guide the Chapel forward. On most any Sunday morning you will also meet folks from across the country—thirty-five states are represented in our active membership. Some people have long-standing ties to the Cape; others have found us on their first summer stay and have “stayed” with us since. While most are Episcopalians, we welcome worshippers from many faith traditions.

“We are not defined by our memory. We are defined simply by being a child of God, whether we know it or not. We are created in the image of God, whether we remember that fact or not. And we value relationships, even if we can’t express it or can’t participate in the ways that we used to.”

Musicians

James Arthur Smith, Violin and Viola
Gay Goslin Smith, Piano

The Smith family offers beautiful musical accompaniment to the services at the Chapel. For nearly 40 summers, arriving from Hot Springs, Arkansas, James and Gay enlist their family of string players, including sons and grandchildren, to round out a quartet and an occasional three-generation ensemble fondly called the Smithereens. They play a wide selection of classical composers, including the well-known (Purcell, Corelli, Vivaldi, Bach, Handel, Haydn, Schubert, Dvorak), and the neglected, recently including Pauline Viardot (1821-1910), Amy Beach (1867-1944), Scott Joplin (1868-1917), and William Grant Still (1895-1978). Through the years they have been joined by additional family members, Shelly and Nick Robinson.  Our hymns are selected by Chapel member Stewart Wood who also provides piano accompaniment and directs an occasional pick-up choir.
